Aroma: Most people recognize this aroma from Earl Grey tea, which is flavored with Bergamot. It is a fruity citrus oil with a delicately spicy, zesty top note.
Energetic Properties: Brightening, positive, lifting.
Aromatherapy Properties: A light greenish-yellow liquid with a fresh sweet, fruity scent and a slightly spicy-balsamic undertone. It blends well with lavender, orange blossom, jasmine, cypress, geranium, lemon, chamomile, juniper, coriander, and violet leaf oils. The scent of bergamot is so fresh, and clear, and elevating that smelling pure bergamot oil is one of the great joys of aromatherapy.
Spiritual Uses: A naturally bright oil, Bergamot has long been associated with prosperity and material success, and is a natural ingredient in money charms. Bergamot is also sometimes used in love magick and in rites for honoring spring.
Blends well with: Any number of essential oils, including Lavender, Orange, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Oakmoss, Patchouli, and Benzoin.
History: Now believed to be a hybrid of Sweet lemon and Bitter orange, Bergamot is cultivated mainly in the province of Reggio di Calabria in Italy. This region is widely believed to produce bergamot that is superior to that cultivated elsewhere. One of the most well-known scents in the world, bergamot is used in a wide variety of applications and perfumes.
