Celtic Knot Soapstone Mortar & Pestle

The earliest known mortars and pestles date back to around 35,000 years B.C. and have been used since pre-history on every continent. They are mentioned in the Ebers Papyrus, the oldest surviving medical text, and also appear in the Old Testament (Numbers 11:8 and Proverbs 27:22). They have been made of nearly every material imaginable, including wood, ceramic, bronze, lead, stone and glass. The mortar and pestle are perhaps the oldest known tools associated with early shamanic healing work and have come to be recognized together as the icon for pharmacy itself.
This Dark Green Celtic Knot Mortar & Pestle is made of real soapstone and is handmade in India. At 3 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter this mortar and pestle is wonderful for grinding and mixing herbs, spices, resins and woods.
