Calamus Root Capsules

Calamus is quite common in Manipur and the Naga Hills of India and is found on the edges of lakes and streams. This root is attributed with an intensely aromatic, sweet fragrance, making it valuable in perfumes. It is similar in appearance to ginger root.
The highly fragrant North American calamus root was also a favorite of Native American tribes and had many uses. The Cree used the rhizomes on long journeys.* Calamus has a certain sweetness as well as a sour quality and a heat like ginger or cinnamon.
