A DIFFERENT
KIND OF DAGGA |
|
Latin Name : Leonotis Ocymifolia
Description : Sparse shrub with tall, 4-angled stems which are square in
cross-section. The leaves are in pairs, may be narrow or broad and are toothed;
they are often hairy. The flowers are carried in dense, spiky golfball-sized
heads spaced up the stems supporting tubular orange flowers; they are separated
into two parts or lips, a hooded upper lip which encloses the stamens, and a
small lower lip. Sunbirds usually feed on the nectar of the flowers. The
flowering time of the
Wild Dagga is during summer and autumn. Despite the common name of
Wild Dagga, the leaves are not used as a substitute for true Dagga but are
smoked as a relief for certain illnesses.
Habitat : Grows in savanna areas and thickets. Can be found in the
Northern Province and the Kruger National Park. |

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL |

"After a long day of work, we got home
and rolled a big cigarette of the Wild dagga, with a little bit of tobacco.
After a short argument, who could take the first drag, we finally worked it out.
My partner took the first drag and then handed it over to me. At first we had
our doubts, but jeeeezzzzz, what a great smoke, the taste is somewhat bitter,
but hey! It is very effective, we've experienced similar effects of a well-known
herb, became very relaxed and happy. Couldn't stop smiling. When
taking larger amounts, you can experience visionary effects when you close your
eyes!!!!" - from

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL |

"When people buy wild dagga what they
are really trying to get are the active ingredients that are located in these
flower tops. There is much much more of that located in the tops than in the
leaves, but the flowers can be somewhat harsh when burned, so people often seek
out the leaves instead.
If you would like to have a smooth relaxing feeling after a hard day at work and
you want to stay within the law and not burn brain cells then you have to try
the flower tops. The one difference about the feeling you get after ingesting
this flower is that you still have the relaxing calm but without the incoherence
of other similar herbs. You may say, it is hard to peel the smile off your face
yet your mind stays clear of cloudy vision. The flower it self isn't the
smoothest smoke ever but it's worth the effort, though harsh going down. We have
secured a source for these flower tops that will ensure that you have a place to
get them when you want them. I have heard that you can become addicted to the
flowers much like opium but I have had no feelings like this." - from

INTRODUCTION
TO DAGGA |
|
Leonitis leonurus is also known as Lion's Tail or Wild Dagga.
It is a member of the Mint family of plants and promotes euphoria and exuberance
when smoked. It is used by the Hottentot tribesmen of South Africa as an
inebriant/marijuana substitute, which has caused the plant to earn its
reputation as a legal form of wild "dagga" or Cannabis. It is reported that
smoking this plant produces a marijuana-like effect, only milder, and a somewhat
larger amount must be taken.
The active component in Wild Dagga is leonurine, the same alkaloid that is
mildly psychoactive in the similar Leonurus sibiricus (marihuanilla). It may be
addictive on the order of nicotine with regular usage. Wild Dagga is 100% legal
in the United States. It is all-natural and does not contain any controlled
substances. Do not drive or operate machinery when under the influence of Wild
Dagga.
Leonotus is grown for its pretty orange flowers and is popular in landscaping in
Southern California. When this plant is in flower, it provides quite a visual
feast, and its delightful form and dazzling color amazes everyone who sees it.
Many traditional uses have been recorded. The foliage is commonly made into a
medicinal tea, which is favored for the hypnotic focus it gives. The leaves or
roots are widely used as a remedy for snakebite and also to relieve other bites
and stings. Extracts have been applied externally to treat boils, eczema, skin
diseases and itching, and muscular cramps. Extracts are also used to relieve
coughs, cold and influenza, as well as bronchitis, high blood pressure and
headaches. Leaf infusions have been used to treat asthma and viral hepatitis.
This species is also important in Chinese/Vietnamese medicine as an euphoric,
purgative and vermifuge. |
