Baheda (Teminalia belerica)

Shamans used Baheda regularly for visionary guidance to finding cures, and it has been used extensively in Asian medicine, appearing in the Chinese, Indian and Arabic tradition for their psycho somatic qualities.
The fruit of this bellarica variety and the bark of myrobolan (people on heart medication should NOT use these herbs) has a pronounced sedative and depressant effect on the sympathetic nervous system. By reducing the system's activity, the herb brings about the lowering of blood pressure. As a result, it may also be helpful when used to relieve anxiety and insomnia, as well as more serious mental health problems such as psychosis. The various sub species of Termenlia have been used over 2000 years in the East, and continue to be used an ingredient in many pharmaceutical products to treat nervous disorders such as anxiety.Use 1/2 oz per 4 cups of water to make tea and drink 1/2 cup per serving. The best way is to make a strong decoction (using a coffee filter press if possible) with boiling water.Another way to use it is to add the powdered fruit to alcohol and steep to make a tincture. 2 oz/100 ml of alcohol, steeped for 1 week works great. Then, use a dropper of the decanted extract one or twice per day.
